4. When you think of your father (or grandfather) cleaning, what do you see him doing?
I don't really have any images in my mind of my dad cleaning the house, per se. Inside the house, he didn't clean so much as he did do repairs and home improvements; he painted most of the rooms in the house, put up paneling in a couple rooms, sanded and shellacked the floors, and so on. What I do remember is him cleaning the yard, raking up the leaves, sweeping the dirt out of the cracks in the brick patio (which he built), and doing other things like planting and tending to flowers at the side of the house. In contrast to my mom with the house-cleaning. He enjoyed this work, I think, it was meditative for him.
